REGIONAL WORKSHOPS 2016

The FRLAEF is offering eight Regional Workshops this fall. ProStart teachers may bring up to five students to each event. There is no fee to attend a Regional Workshop. Lunch will be provided for all attendees at each event. Chef coats will be given to all participating ProStart students at each event. Travel to and from events is on your own.

If Regional Workshops reach maximum capacity prior to the deadline, all subsequent schools will be placed on the waiting list. Most events begin at 8:30 am and conclude no later than 2:00 pm.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

KEISER UNIVERSITY, MELBOURNE CAMPUS

The event will begin at 8:30 am and conclude by 2:00 pm. There is no fee to attend this event. Lunch will be provided and all Keiser high res logoattending students will receive a complimentary chef jacket.

Students will rotate through three Italian Cuisine sessions:
Kitchen 1 — knife skills, vinaigrette production, salad composition, defining and producing antipasta.
Kitchen 2 — fabrication of poultry, sauce production, pasta production
Kitchen 3 — breads, stirred creams, cookies and sweet sauces

Each ProStart school may bring up to 5 ProStart students to the event. (If more space becomes available we will let you know.)

JWULogoJohnson & Wales University will be conducting the workshop. The event will begin at 8:30 am and conclude by 2:00 pm. Lunch will be provided along with chef jackets for each attending student. There is no fee to attend this event.

• Trends in Baking & Pastry
• Molecular Gastronomy
• Trends in Nutrition

WALT DISNEY WORLD SWAN AND DOLPHIN RESORT, ORLANDO

The FRLAEF is hosting a Regional Workshop in conjunction with the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance (MFHA)MFHA-Header-logo_440x155 Showcase of the Stars. It will be held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort on Thursday, October 13, 2016.

The event is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 am and conclude by 1:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. There is no fee to attend.

The MFHA Showcase of the Stars is a live, in-person career exploration event geared toward minority high school students. However, all students are welcome to attend. Showcase of the Stars informs participants from diverse communities about the tremendous career opportunities that exist in the food and hospitality industry by showcasing successful professionals from all segments of the industry.

MFHA Showcase of the Stars is conducted in a panel format featuring industry professionals. The panelists or “stars”, share their career success stories and answer questions from the student audience.

You may bring up to 10 ProStart/HTMP students to the event. (If more space becomes available we will let you know.)

Keep in mind–this is not a hands on culinary/cooking event. Students attending this event will not receive chef jackets.

MFHA SHOWCASE OF THE STARS, MIAMI

The FRLAEF will be holding a Regional Workshop at the Keiser University Sarasota campus on Friday, October 14, 2016.Keiser high res logo

The event will begin at 8:30 am and conclude by 2:00 pm. There is no fee to attend this event. Lunch will be provided and all attending students will receive a complimentary chef jacket.

Students will rotate through various Latin Cuisine sessions:
The focus of the Lab will be to use a variety of basic techniques and skills including but not limited to knife skills, cooking and baking methods in order to produce a variety of traditional Latin dishes. Dishes to include, Mojo Pork, Shrimp Vera Cruz, Arroz Con Pollo, Spiced plantain chips, Salsa, Charro Beans, Mexican Street Corn, Pao de Queijo, Guava and Cream Cheese Pastelitos and Arroz Con Leche

Each ProStart school may bring up to 5 ProStart students to the event. (If more space becomes available we will let you know.)
