Garrett M. Hughes Scholarship

At the Annual Meeting of The Florida Bar, The Council of Past Presidents of The Florida Bar announced the creation of the Garrett M. Hughes Scholarship.

This scholarship was established to both to thank Jere & Jack Harkness for their long and selfless service to the lawyers of the State of Florida and to honor their late son Garrett M. Hughes who was killed in a motorcycle accident at age 35. Garrett was an accomplished Chef at many famous restaurants in Florida and California and was very involved in encouraging young people in the industry. Watch a video of the special announcement here.

The Garrett M. Hughes Scholarship will be administered by the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (FRLAEF) that provides school-to-career training for 30,000 hospitality students, with programs in more than 250 high schools statewide. The FRLAEF promotes the quality and employability of local high school graduates in the food service and lodging industries. Since its establishment, countless lawyers have reached out asking if they can contribute to this worthy cause as well. To that end, I’m providing the following information concerning the scholarship & encourage you to contribute.

Donations can be made via the form below.

If you would prefer to mail a check, checks are to be made payable to the “FRLA Educational Foundation” with a notation on the check that the purpose is for the Garrett M. Hughes Scholarship and mailed to:
