In honor of Human Trafficking Prevention Month in January, AHLA and the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association are proud to kick off our awareness efforts on January 11, 2021 with an event bringing our industry together with lawmakers, local and national partners, and leading experts to raise awareness around the country in advance of Super Bowl LV.
AHLAF is teaming up with It’s a Penalty, the Tampa Super Bowl Host Committee, A21, and the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association to launch It’s A Penalty’s 2021 Super Bowl Campaign to harness the power of sports to fight human trafficking. As part of this effort, we will hold a short, virtual training to raise awareness and educate hotel employees about the signs and ways to report instances of trafficking. The event will be streamed virtually, but a limited number of individuals will be able to attend in person.
In coordination with the event, the AHLA Foundation’s No Room for Trafficking Program will kick off a month of activity, including a new resource on combatting trafficking during COVID-19 in partnership with ECPAT-USA and encouraging attendees and all of our members to wear blue on January 11 in support of the Blue Campaign.
The hotel industry has long recognized the critical role it plays in ending the scourge of human trafficking. Through innovative techniques and employee training, it is building upon current efforts ahead of the Super Bowl to ensure all employees are trained in identifying, reporting and stopping instances of human trafficking.
We hope that you will register today to attend – virtually or in-person – on January 11. For those wishing to attend the event in person, the event will have a limited capacity and follow CDC, local regulations and AHLA’s Safe Stay Guidelines.
