12th Annual HTMP Competition Results

(TALLAHASSEE, FL)—The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation (FRLAEF) announced the winners of the 12th Annual Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) Competition which was held Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando.

Thirty-two students from across the state participated in the day’s events and won more than $30,000 in scholarships. All winners and participants are a part of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP) which was developed by industry experts and is the official industry-recognized curriculum to prepare students for roles in the hotel industry and beyond. The program is delivered with graphic-rich textbooks and workbooks, and incorporates the best of modern technology with a selection of online coursework. This year, there were three different competitive categories: Hotel Operations, Hospitality Project and the Knowledge Bowl.

Miami Beach Senior High School won first place in the overall competition. Mid Florida Technical in Orlando took home second place in the overall competition, with Gainesville High School placing third.

“The competition was fierce, but these students showed they were up for a challenge. Congratulations to all of our winners and participants who are passionate about the hospitality industry. We look forward to their continued success as they move forward with careers and educational opportunities. They are the future of Florida and we are thrilled to help train them as a HTMP students right here in the Sunshine State,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.

Students competing in the hotel operations competition performed a night audit, analyzed three case studies, and performed a room inspection.

Students participating in the hospitality project competition demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities required in planning an event, which included a proposal to the client, BEO (Banquet Event Order), menu and floor plan.

Twelfth Annual Florida HTMP Competing Teams

The 12th Annual HTMP Competition will take place Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. Congratulations to the following competing teams:

Return your School Entry Form and Participant Waiver for each student no later than January 30, 2015. If you drop out of the event after January 30, 2015, your school will not be able to compete in the 2016 competition.

Competitions will begin first thing Sunday morning and conclude on Monday with an Awards Luncheon.

MONETARY ASSISTANCE

The FRLAEF will cover the cost of your hotel room nights for Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1.  We will also cover most meals on site. Each school is responsible for their travel costs. An agenda will be released once the rules are finalized.

AWARDS

The winners of the HTMP Competition will advance to the International HTMP Competition, Thursday, April 23 – Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in  Orlando. Post-secondary schools may also award scholarships to the students placing in the top five in each competition.  The FRLAEF will provide medals to each student placing in the top five in each competition. The Competition winners will receive the traveling trophy.

For 2015, AHLEI is allowing the first and second place teams from the Florida competition to participate in their competition.

HOTEL

The FRLAEF has a room block reserved at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. We will be taking care of your hotel rooms nights, just indicate on your School Entry Form what you need. Self-parking is free. Valet parking is $20/day and will be on your own.

SALUTE TO EXCELLENCE AWARDS DINNER

The FRLAEF Salute to Excellence Awards Dinner will take place Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. You and your competing students are invited to be our guests at this dinner. You may recognize your top student, FRLAEF scholarships will be awarded and all HTMP competing teams will be recognized. Look for these registrations/applications in upcoming NewsBites.
