FRLAEF HTMP Student of the Year, Trinity Love Hoblit Scholarship
Congratulations to Melanny Concepion, the 2018 HTMP Student of the Year! As the FRLAEF Student of the Year, Melanny recieved the $2,000 Trinity Love Hoblit Scholarship. While attending Osceola High School in Kissimmee, she earned a 3.5 GPA, while completing two years of industry experience at Magical Memories and SeaWorld Orlando. At the same time she was taking dual enrollment classes at Valencia College, competing in hospitality competitions and writing a grant for the HTMP program at her high school. She even wrote a business and marketing plan for the HTMP program’s coffee cart business. Ms. Concepcion is currently attending Valencia College with plans to transfer to the Rosen School of Hospitality at UCF. She is also one of the first members of her family to attend college.
16th Annual Florida HTMP Competition–OCTOBER DEADLINE!
The 16th Annual HTMP Competition will take place Sunday, March 3 through Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel
in Orlando. The FRLAEF will cover some costs of the competing teams, including hotel stay and meals.
PARTICIPATION To be eligible to compete, the school must 1) have purchased and be using the Year One and Year Two HTMP curriculum 2) complete a Fall HTMP Survey (link below) and 3) complete the competition application. Please do not submit an application unless you meet these requirements.
RULES The score sheet for the case studies has been updated to take into consideration the needs of the customer along with the needs of the hotel.

HTMP Curriculum & Fall Survey
The FRLAEF will distribute free HTMP curriculum to Florida HTMP schools during the 2018-2019 school year. In order to receive free HTMP curriculum, teachers should complete the Fall HTMP Survey. Once you have completed the survey, you may request up to $2,000 of free HTMP curriculum!

Hospitality Industry Internships
The Hospitality Industry Internship (HII) provides the opportunity for Florida HTMP instructors to work in a lodging establishment for at least 40 hours. Once the required paperwork has been processed, the participant will receive a personal check for $600 from the FRLAEF.
To qualify for an HII, the instructor must teach the HTMP curriculum during the 2018-2019 school year. If you are already employed at a restaurant or hotel, you MAY NOT use that site for your internship. The restaurant/hotel must also be a new work experience for you, not somewhere you have worked before or used as an HII internship location.
The applicant must secure a position at a foodservice or lodging facility where a minimum of 40 hours of hands-on experience is guaranteed. The host location may pay the recipient but is not required to do so.
The FRLAEF will award 11 HII’s this school year on a first-come, first-served basis. So apply NOW! Work experience may begin once the applicant receives an award notification from the FRLAEF.

Salute to Excellence Awards Dinner
The Salute to Excellence Awards will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. The awards dinner will recognize all Pineapple Award (Teacher of the Year), Scholarship recipients and Hospitality Excellence Awardees. Registration will begin in January 2019.
HTMP instructors will have the opportunity to recognize one student during the awards dinner with a Hospitality Excellence Award. These students will be called on stage during the awards dinner and recognized with a certificate.
All HTMP instructors may receive a complimentary ticket to the awards dinner. Hospitality Excellence Award students receive two complimentary tickets, one for them and one for a guest.
Scholarships
The FRLAEF will award $44,000 in scholarships during the 2018-2019 school year. These scholarships will be awarded during the Salute to Excellence Awards in the Spring. The scholarship application will be available in December 2018.
All HTMP graduating seniors may apply for this one-time $2,000 scholarship.
