On Thursday, BP and five Gulf states impacted by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill announced an $18.7 billion settlement. As part of the agreement in principle, Florida will receive at least $3.25 billion. Immediately following the settlement, FRLA President and CEO, Carol Dover, issued the following statement:
“On behalf of our more than 10,000 Florida hoteliers, restaurateurs, and hospitality and tourism members, we applaud Governor Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their steadfast leadership in fighting for the economic and environmental dollars owed to those who support Florida’s economic engine. Five years after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, we still do not know the extent of the damage done to the Gulf, however this is a first step in making our industry whole.”
