U.S. Department of Labor Changes Rules for Overtime Pay: The U.S. Department of Labor announced new federal overtime regulations this week in a fact sheet. Salaried restaurant employees who work more than 40 hours in a week will be entitled to overtime pay as of Dec. 1 unless they earn more than $47,476 annually. The threshold that will make management employees exempt from overtime requirements is roughly double the current level—the equivalent of $913 per week, versus $455, or $23,660 annually. Record Number of Tourists Visit Florida in First Quarter: A record-breaking 29.8 million tourists visited Florida during the first quarter of the year, marking the highest tourism count ever recorded from January to March, according to data released Monday by Gov. Rick Scott’s office. The governor announced that 29.8 million tourists visited the state between January and March, a 4.8 percent increase from the same time period last year.
