On January 1, 2019, the Florida Bed and Breakfast Inns (FBBI) will officially merge with the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association (FRLA) and become the association’s first-ever state-wide special interest chapter. The newly-formed Florida Inns Chapter will include a community of approximately 45 innkeepers across the state with many of the members concentrated in the Northeast region.
Although this new chapter marks an official merge of the two associations, FRLA and FBBI have partnered since 2015 with FBBI members enjoying dual membership. In July of this year, discussions about a new relationship began. Representatives from both associations believed that working together with one mission, one voice, and one story at the local, state, and national levels would only benefit members. FBBI formally voted to merge with FRLA in September, with an effective date of December 31, 2018.
In order to ensure a smooth transition and launch of the Florida Inns Chapter, the Executive Director and board of FBBI have worked diligently with FRLA staff to address chapter administration and event programming moving forward. FRLA is excited that FBBI’s current board has agreed to serve as the new chapter’s leadership through 2021. While this tenure is longer than typical for an FRLA chapter, both FRLA and FBBI believe the continuity will serve to stabilize and grow the Florida Inns Chapter in these critical first years.
