2024 Florida Keys Fishing Tournament

The FRLA Monroe Chapter Florida Keys Fishing Tournament is kicking off on June 19th with a Captain’s Party! The tournament will take place at Hawks Cay Marina in Duck Key on June 20th! This tournament has grown in stature due to the elevated level of networking with top hospitality leaders, fun angler gifts, stellar auction items, great prizes… and of course world class fishing! The purpose of this event is to raise funds for local community needs with net proceeds directly benefiting educational programs in Monroe County through donations of textbooks, equipment, curriculum, scholarships, and stipends to high schools and CFK. Join FRLA Monroe for this exciting and fun-filled event!

Beginning in 2026, Central Florida’s businesses, residents and visitors will be able to turn their food scraps and other forms of organic waste into renewable natural gas. Groundbreaking for the Orlando BioEnergy facility (located near Orange County’s existing solid waste facilities) is expected to take place in the fall of 2024. When it opens, the cutting-edge facility will turn organic waste such as food scraps, leftover or expired food products, organic agricultural waste and other challenging waste streams into renewable natural gas, co2 and even compressed natural gas that can power commercial vehicles. The byproduct of the Orlando BioEnergy process after the gas is extracted is organic fertilizer that will be used locally to nourish pasture lands and other agricultural applications.

What is the 80/20 labor rule?

  • Introduced in December 2021, this rule applies if you take the tip credit.
  • If tipped workers are paid the tipped wage during their shift, any supportive work cannot exceed 20% of their workweek OR 30 continuous minutes.
  • If tipped workers engage in unrelated activities, they must be paid full minimum wage for that time.
  • If a tipped employee performs directly supporting work for over 30 continuous minutes, the employer cannot take a tip credit for any time exceeding 30 minutes.
  • Time exceeding 30 minutes, for which the tip credit cannot be taken, is excluded from calculating the 20% level.
