New Scholarship Opportunity for your HTMP Students–Deadline This Month!
The David Caples and Trinity Love Hoblit Scholarship is in honor of two people who loved the hospitality industry. Trinity’s parents are in the hospitality industry, and it was Trinity’s dream to pursue a career in the hospitality industry as well. Olivia Hoblit, Trinity’s mother, is on the FRLA Board. David Caples was Olivia’s mentor and role model and the reason why she is in the hospitality industry today. David was an outstanding hotelier for over 40 years and was an incredible supporter of the community and our industry. He was also Trinity’s Godfather.
HTMP teachers may nominate a past student or current senior for this $2,000 scholarship. There is no limit to how many students you may nominate.

Mini Grants
The FRLAEF received over 150 Mini Grant applications. The Board will meet in early October to determine the distribution of this year’s budget of $95,000.
GRANT AWARD NOTIFICATION: Applicants will receive email notifications by the middle of October.
UCF Rosen Research Magazine
The UCF Rosen School of Hospitality, along with its partner, Research Features, has just issued its fourth installment of their magazine. The magazine is based on research that focuses on subjects that are impacting the hospitality and tourism industry. This issue includes an article about the founding dean of UCF Rosen School of Hospitality, Abraham Pizam, Ph.D.
Hospitality Industry Internships
The Hospitality Industry Internship (HII) provides the opportunity for Florida HTMP instructors to work in a lodging establishment for at least 40 hours. Once the required paperwork has been processed, the participant will receive a personal check for $600.
To qualify for an HII, the instructor must teach the HTMP curriculum during the 2021-2022 school year. If you are already employed at a restaurant or hotel, you MAY NOT use that site for your internship. The restaurant/hotel must be a new work experience for you, not somewhere you have worked before or used as an HII internship location.
The applicant must secure a position at a foodservice or lodging facility where a minimum of 40 hours of hands-on experience is guaranteed. The host location may pay the recipient but is not required to do so.
The FRLAEF will award 11 HII’s this school year on a first-come, first-served basis. So apply NOW! Work experience may begin once the applicant receives an award notification from the FRLAEF.
Scholarships
The FRLAEF will award $44,000 in scholarships during the 2021-2022 school year. These scholarships will be awarded during the Salute to Excellence Awards in the Spring. The scholarship application will be available in January.
All HTMP graduating seniors may apply for this one-time $2,000 scholarship.
