Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show–Canceled

The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show was canceled due to Covid concerns. We hope to see you there next year!

HTMP/Foodsafety Curriculum & Fall Survey

The FRLAEF will distribute free HTMP and/or Foodsafety curriculum to Florida’s HTMP schools during the 2021-2022 school year. In order to receive free HTMP and/or Foodsafety curriculum, teachers must complete the Fall HTMP Survey. Once you have completed the survey, you may request up to $2,000 of free HTMP and/or Foodsafety curriculum!

CLICK HERE to complete the online Fall HTMP Survey. It is due no later than Friday, September 24, 2021.

Mini Grants

The FRLAEF is offering $95,000 in Mini Grant funding to HTMP and ProStart schools this year. There is no fixed amount for individual grant awards, but to assist your planning, the average award last year was $700. A special thank you to Ecolab for their generous $15,000 contribution to our 2021 Mini Grant fund!

There are two prerequisites for grant funding: 1) you must currently teach the HTMP curriculum, and 2) you must complete the HTMP Fall Survey.

The FRLAEF Board of Directors prefers to fund items that will make your classroom self-sustaining. If a piece of equipment is requested, it should be something that will be used frequently throughout the year.  In the past, HTMP schools have requested Knowledge Matters license, HTMP polo shirts, HTMP aprons, POS system, etc.  Regardless of the item requested, please be sure to give a good description of how the item will be used in the classroom.

The application deadline is Friday, September 24, 2021

GRANT AWARD NOTIFICATION: The FRLAEF Board will meet in early October to determine awards.

New Scholarship Opportunity for your HTMP Students

The David Caples and Trinity Love Hoblit Scholarship is in honor of two people who loved the hospitality industry. Trinity’s parents are in the hospitality industry, and it was Trinity’s dream to pursue a career in the hospitality industry as well. Olivia Hoblit, Trinity’s mother, is on the FRLA Board. David Caples was Olivia’s mentor and role model and the reason why she is in the hospitality industry today. David was an outstanding hotelier for over 40 years and was an incredible supporter of the community and our industry. He was also Trinity’s Godfather.

HTMP teachers may nominate a past student or current senior for this $2,000 scholarship. There is no limit to how many students you may nominate.

To be eligible to compete, the school must 1) have purchased and be using the Year One and Year Two HTMP curriculum, or the new HTM Curriculum, 2) have returned a Fall HTMP Survey to FRLAEF and 3) complete the competition application. Hospitality Industry Internships

The Hospitality Industry Internship (HII) provides the opportunity for Florida HTMP instructors to work in a lodging establishment for at least 40 hours. Once the required paperwork has been processed, the participant will receive a personal check for $600.

To qualify for an HII, the instructor must teach the HTMP curriculum during the 2021-2022 school year. If you are already employed at a restaurant or hotel, you MAY NOT use that site for your internship. The restaurant/hotel must be a new work experience for you, not somewhere you have worked before or used as an HII internship location.

The applicant must secure a position at a foodservice or lodging facility where a minimum of 40 hours of hands-on experience is guaranteed. The host location may pay the recipient but is not required to do so.

The FRLAEF will award 11 HII’s this school year on a first-come, first-served basis. So apply NOW! Work experience may begin once the applicant receives an award notification from the FRLAEF.
