(Miami, FL) – The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA)’s Miami-Dade Chapter is proud to raise funds for hospitality education by hosting its 2nd Annual Golf Invitational. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2015 at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. Now in its second year, this event has brought in $100,000 which has helped provide scholarships, textbooks, curriculum and equipment for students participating in the Miami-Dade ProStart Culinary Programs and Hospitality Tourism Management Programs (HTMP).
“This is an incredible chance for local business leaders to enjoy a little friendly competition while supporting the future of Florida’s hospitality industry,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “We are thrilled to see so many people participate in such a great event that helps move high school students a step closer to their dreams of successful careers and educational opportunities.”
The event kicks off with a welcome from FRLA’s 2014 Hotelier of the Year and President of The Biltmore Hotel, Gene Prescott. Then shortly before the first swing, lunch will be provided by Smith & Wollensky. As golfers make their way around the course, they will have the opportunity to savor some of the best flavors in town including: Chef Allen Susser’s famous curried chicken sliders, Sergio’s Cuban Restaurant specialties, BJ’s Brewhouse’s craft beer and some of Sushi Maki’s healthy fare. Plus, players will have four possibilities for a hole-in-one, courtesy of Williamson Cadillac, which include the chance win a brand new Cadillac CTS.
In addition to the golf tournament and a silent auction, Miami Beach High School’s statewide champion HTMP team will be present to receive an award. The Miami Dade College Culinary Ninjas and Miami Hospitality Institute students will also be volunteering.
