REMOTE PROCTORING FOR HTMP NOW AVAILABLE!
Today Florida’s DOE approved the HTMP exams for remote proctoring. CLICK HERE for the list of approved home testing certifications. This process will allow your approved proctor to administer the HTMP exam to up to 3 students at one time. You will watch your students take the exam using your school sanctioned web/video conferencing software.
In the past, the fee to take the exam was covered when you purchased a scantron in the HTMP workbook. There is currently no way to purchase just the HTMP scantron. Therefore, you may turn in your current scantrons to receive your online voucher code. You must complete the exchange form, which you can receive by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. You have until September 1 to mail in the HTMP scantrons.
HTMP Curriculum Needs?
If you need HTMP scantrons (purchased along with the workbook) for this school year or have HTMP curriculum needs for next school year, please let us know as we may be able to help.
HTMP Back on CAPE List for 2020-2021
On April 30, CareerSource Florida’s executive committee approved 18 additional certification that were not on the original February 20th list. The HTMP Certification was one of the 18 certifications added back to the list! These certifications are only approved for one additional year which means they will be removed from the list on June 30, 2021. However, it does mean you are able to get CAPE funding for the HTMP Certificate throughout all of the 2020-2021 school year.
The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) is providing free Hospitality and Tourism Management e-books to HTMP schools through June 30, 2020.
Teachers: please forward this to your HTMP students so they can access the Hospitality & Tourism Management e-books for the remainder of the school year.

HTMP REMOTE EXAM PROCTORING
AHLEI is currently working on a solution for this and should have something soon. They do have Florida’s requirements for Remote Exam Proctoring and are working to meet those requirements.
ServSafe Manager e-Book and Virtual Learning
A free ServSafe Manager e-book specifically for K-12 use will also be accessible. High school teachers will be able to provide access to the ServSafe Manager student e-book for the remainder of the school year to assist with remote learning. If teachers are using video conferencing programs such as Zoom, NRAEF does ask that you do not record your ServSafe instruction. The e-book access for high school programs will be available only through June 30. After that date, all virtual bookshelf and downloaded instances will expire. Your HTMP access codes will also work for ServSafe.
ServSafe Remote Proctoring – Solution in Process
NRAEF is actively pursuing a remote proctoring solution that will become available this month. More updates to come.
Free COVID-19 Course Training: Takeout and Delivery Available through April 30
At the end of March, the NRAEF released two free training videos in response to COVID-19: ServSafe Takeout: COVID-19 Precautions and ServSafe Delivery: COVID-19 Precautions. These videos are offering to schools as additional digital instructional resources. Each video course is 10 minutes long and available in English and Spanish. Students can register for either course through this link.
HTMP SUMMER TRAINING
Thank you to those that have completed the HTMP summer program survey. If you have not done so, please complete the survey below. Due to the current CDC guidelines, we are still unable to host a summer program for HTMP instructors. We are researching other options. As soon as they are finalized, we will pass the information along.
$180,000 in FRLAEF Scholarships Awarded
The FRLAEF awarded almost 70 scholarships to HTMP and ProStart students this year. Scholarship ranged from $1,000 to $5,000 and were presented during the Salute to Excellence Awards dinner on Sunday, March 8 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando.
This scholarship is contingent upon the FRLAEF receiving verification the student has been admitted and enrolled in a post-secondary institution. This is confirmed when the student emails the FRLAEF the following:
- Post-Secondary Student ID Number
- Financial Aid mailing address of their post-secondary school
The FRLAEF must receive this required documentation no later than June 12, 2020. The FRLAEF scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award.
Path to Power Series
The Path to Power series profiles executives in the hospitality industry and the career path they took to get there. These articles were compiled for Florida’s HTMP & ProStart students.
CHI Scholarships Available
Professional certifications have become a requirement for many secondary school teachers and workforce instructors. The Certified Hospitality Instructor (CHI) provides teachers in secondary school hospitality classes and workforce development programs with a solid foundation of hospitality knowledge and skills, so they can more effectively convey the information to students and better prepare them for careers in hospitality. Prospective CHI candidates may teach one of EI’s hospitality programs, including the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program (HTMP), Skills, Tasks, And Result Training (START), or any other secondary-level hospitality curriculum.
EI’s CHI learning format consists of a two-level self-study program that includes print resources and online study modules presented by Michael “Doc” Terry, CHE, a hospitality instructor at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Each level consists of 13 modules with an online exam that must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher. The learning modules relate to the content presented in EI’s HTMP. Candidates must also complete a 120-hour hospitality internship to earn the certification. Certification candidates have six months to complete the program requirements including the 120-hour internship.
The cost for the new certification program is $750.00, which includes both books, the online courses, and the exams.
The FRLAEF will cover the training costs for each of the CHI Scholarship recipients.
