Carmen Rodriguez is a graduate of The University of the Sacred Heart in Santurce, Puerto Rico, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. She began her Wage and Hour journey in 1997 as an Investigator in the Tampa District Office. She transferred to the Orlando District Office in 2022. As a Senior Investigator, she’s completed investigations in all the laws enforced by Wage and Hour. She is currently on detail as the Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist. She travels through Central and North Florida educating the community in the laws enforced by the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Student Scholarships and Teacher of the Year

The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Broward Chapter is now accepting scholarship applications for students in pursuit of education in culinary, hospitality and tourism industries. $2,000 Scholarships will be awarded to high school, college, or university level students in pursuit of a career in the culinary, hospitality or tourism industry in South Florida.

Students are selected based on their academic or industry achievements, essay, and GPA. A letter of acceptance or student ID from the college or university is required to receive the award. All Hospitality and Culinary Students are eligible to apply. This year, Scholarship winners will be awarded on Monday May 06, 2024, at an in-person breakfast event with details to follow. Finalists will be notified prior to the breakfast awards.

To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must:

  • High School graduating seniors who will begin post-secondary education during the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Any student entering or currently enrolled in a culinary or hospitality post-secondary program in a South Florida educational institute.
  • Return a copy of completed application, essay, and digital copy of high school, college, or university transcripts to FRLA Broward via email by the application deadline outlined below.

Eligible students must be a High School Senior or any College/University Student in an eligible program and must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale (unweighted GPA). Your scholarship, if awarded, will be paid out upon receipt of proof of registration from a South Florida college or university. The deadline to claim our scholarship is upon school registration and prior to December 2024.

ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED, and STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO PROOFREAD ANSWERS before submission.
